Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said on Tuesday that he is not tired of vying for the nation’s presidential seat because he believes he has what it takes to win the contest and give the nation the much-expected good leadership.
Speaking with a cross section of journalists in his private residence in Abuja, the APC leader, who reiterated his desire to make public his candidature for the 2015 presidential contest
on the platform of the APC, reiterated that giving up on his presidential ambition is synonymous to giving up on the nation.
He made the assertion while responding to a question on his persistent contest for the presidency and why he hasn’t given up since he hasn’t won since 2003.
“How can I be discouraged? You are just asking me to give up on Nigeria. I don’t have any other place to go; I don’t. So, why should I give up on Nigeria? That’s what you are asking me to do. I won’t give up until I can no longer have the capacity, the strength. I can’t give up on Nigeria.
If I lose, I will support my party to win the election. That’s all,” he said.
Atiku described his party, the APC, as one founded on internal democracy where the wishes of everybody are taken into consideration before decisions are taken.
According to him, internal democracy thrives in APC than the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), adding that the APC holds a better future for Nigeria than PDP.
“For sure, so far internal democracy operates within the APC, it is a better alternative than what is being done in PDP. Obviously, there is no doubt about that.
“You can see that in the few bye-elections we have done through very transparent processes in terms of nominations and so on and so forth. So, we believe the APC holds a better future in terms of internal democracy and also its commitment to the progress of the country,” Atiku said.
He expressed strong conviction about a free and fair party primary in the APC in the march towards selecting the party’s presidential candidate
